Grand Cayman Considers Floating Pier Again
A floating pier coming to Grand Cayman after all?
The Cayman Islands’ tourism minister Kenneth Bryan is looking at the viability of a floating dock in George Town Harbour, reviving an idea that was previously rejected as an alternative to cruise berthing facilities.
Bryan said that seeing the floating piers in action in Jamaica made him think about using them in Grand Cayman.
He said that there is currently no commitment to the project, but two cruise lines have offered to come do investigations on the floating piers, which can be folded up in bad weather.
Experts who previously assessed whether the floating piers were a good option for Grand Cayman said they would face a technical challenge in George Town Harbour because of its exposure to the open ocean.
Disney The Last Line to Keep Vaccine Mandate For All Sailings
After yesterday’s announcement that both Celebrity Cruises and Royal Caribbean International would be relaxing their vaccine protocols, that leaves only Disney Cruise Line as a major big ship operator that has not dropped vaccination mandates.
Currently, Disney says that everyone 12 and older must be vaccinated in order to sail.
One change that is different with Royal Caribbean Group is that it is giving guests the option to self test without having to get tested in a medical setting or using a proctored test, which runs around $30 per test.
Guests can now show proof of the negative test they administered themselves to satisfy the requirement to board, which doesnt eliminate the testing cost, but does take the added stress of not getting your results back in time.
At the time of broadcast, U.S. Carnival Corporation brands and Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings brands require a proctored test within three days in order to sail.
Royal Caribbean Group’s third cruise brand, Silversea Cruises, still requires vaccination for guests 12 and older.

Bookings Open For Carnival Luminosa
Bookings for Carnival Luminosa are now live on Carnival’s website.
The ship will operate a number of voyages down under from Brisbane starting this November, including short three-night Australia getaways, seven-night Great Barrier Reef itineraries, and longer South Pacific cruises.
In June 2023, the ship will head to Seattle to begin a season of seven-night Alaska voyages.
Carnival Luminosa is newly joining the Carnival fleet this year, as previously she had been sailing as Costa Luminosa with another Carnival Corporation brand, Costa Cruises.
