Where is Ukraine on the world map?

Founded in 1922, Ukraine was part of the Soviet Union until its collapse in 1991. In 2009, the country was forced to become an independent state when the Soviet Union split into several countries. In general, Ukraine shares borders with six European countries but is large on the Black Sea which separates it from Russia.

Here are five awesome things that you can do in Ukraine.

If you’re looking for a new travel destination and you haven’t been to Ukraine yet, then you’re missing out. This country is beautiful, and it offers many incredible places to visit. Plus, it’s one of the easiest in Eastern Europe to reach. If you’re wondering what to do while there, take some time to explore Chernobyl or learn about its nuclear power plant-related happenings. There are also some toxic waste sites, though, so keep that in mind as you make travels plans.

Although Ukraine is not necessarily known for budget-friendly prices, the country still offers plenty of opportunities for those who want to explore off-the-beaten path locations. For example, you can stay in a hostel and travel by train for only $20 USD per day, and it costs about $20-30 USD to get around.

Here are some of the highlights of Ukraine and where to go.

There are a number of amazing things that you can do in Kiev, but ultimately it’ll be up to your preference as to what you find more valuable. Whether you’d like to visit Chernobyl or other sites like Novi Pazar, the city has something for everyone.

Whether you’re planning a Ukraine-related trip or not, these are some of the cities that we recommend visiting!

The best time to visit Ukraine is during the fall.

It’s best to visit Ukraine during Spring or Fall, when the weather is still nice. In general, Odesa is “a popular Black Sea coast resort that attracts people from around the world in the summertime.”

Ukraine’s Independence Day takes place on August 24, 2019. The big party is September 30th, 2021. (Kyiv celebrates their holiday according to the Orthodox calendar, which falls on January 6-7 in 2021.)

Kyiv or Kiev?

We’ve always been interested in Russia because of its rich history. When we published our magazine, we referred to Kiev as the capital of Ukraine on the cover. However, there was a petition that had over 112,000 signatures requesting for other people to change “Kiev” to “Kyiv.” As an alternative spelling, “Kyiv” would be preferable when looking to spell a word properly.

Kyiv is the traditional English name for the Ukrainian city in modern use, but there is also a Russian transliteration of Kyiv. This is because it was deemed as an influence leftover from Russia’s influence over Ukraine back in the 1950s.

When Ukraine changed the name of their capital city from the Soviet-era Kyiv, many people weren’t happy about it. By using all capitals, those who wanted to keep Kyiv’s old name were able to do so. This created a challenge for us. When we visited Kyiv and saw that this common usage had caused some frustration, we wanted to fix this problem. CorrectUA is the result!

Flying from Kyiv to London is getting more popular with the number of low-cost carriers in the market steadily growing. In fact, Wizz Air currently operates its own flights from Kyiv to destinations across Europe. More time-saving routes include those on AirBaltic, Ryanair, and SkyUp Airlines; new to Kiev’s market.
